Bob L. Cotham
Mr. Cotham moved to Shidler in 1969 where he was head football coach for 10 years, Athletic Director 14 years, junior high and senior high principal 19 years, and science teacher 12 years. In 1973 and 1974 Mr. Cotham was named Teacher of the Year. In 1973 he was named District and Conference Coach of the Year. In 1973 his Shidler football team had a 9-1 record, the best season ever for the 11-man football squad. The Bob Cotham Scholarship was created in 1989 shortly after his death. Former football players and a co-worker helped establish the Bob Cotham Scholarship and made the contributions. Many donations made to the scholarship were in part through contributions earmarked in memory of Mr. Cotham at the time of his death. Since that time alumni have continued to contribute to the scholarship. In 1999, Mr. Cotham's class donated to the scholarship during their 45th class reunion. Any graduating senior from Shidler Public School may get an application from the counselor at the high school or print an application from the link below. Students must meet the criteria set forth and must further comply once the scholarship is presented. Link Cotham, Mr. Cotham's son, is serving as chairman of the selection committee and coordinating scholarship payments with the recipient's. Currently the scholarship is $500 given over 4 consecutive fall/spring semesters. The recipient is given $125 per semester. The committee's goal is to raise the scholarship to $750 and possibly to $1000 when the money is available. Bob Cotham Memorial Scholarship Application Golden Bear Award This award was established in 1984 and is given to an outstanding athlete for achievement in leadership, scholarship and sportsmanship, through a vote of those in attendance at the annual Athletic Banquet. This award is still given today and is one of the highest honors a student athlete can receive at Shidler High School.
